Walter Beasley
w. David Dyson Tuesday, February 7 8pm $30
Why They're Worth Watching: Over the past two decades, saxophonist Walter Beasley has artfully and dynamically redefined the phrase "musical Renaissance Man" for the modern generation. Considered by fans and critics alike as "the heir to Grover Washington Jr.'s throne," the Boston-based musician has long mastered an exhilarating high wire act of balancing a successful career as a contemporary jazz recording artist and performer with an equally thriving presence in the field of music education. Since 1998, Beasley has been one of the ten highest selling saxmen in the world while continuing his highly influential work as a full professor of music at his alma mater, The Berklee School of Music.
For Fans Of: Jazz Music, Grover Washington, Jr., Paul Taylor, Michael Brown
Todd Snider
w. Rosi Golan Wednesday, February 8 Thursday, February 9 $27.50 8pm *each night*
Why He's Worth Watching: Keith Richards said humor was rock and roll’s greatest weapon, Bob Dylan proved it and Snider takes it to heart. Snider is a vociferous musician whose fans know him to be quite the workhorse. His acclaimed 2006 release, The Devil You Know found the barefoot troubadour performing live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman and the CD appeared on numerous year-end Top 10 lists including Spin, Blender and Rolling Stone. More recently, last year’s Peace Queer EP--a concept record featuring all the peace, love and anarchy Snider is known for--inspired Blender to say he "morphed from a wisecracking country-ish journeyman to the sharpest and funniest protest singer working today."
In many ways, Golan's songwriting can most closely be likened to a storm, or a weather system that has come and stayed for the last decade of her life. In the years since this weather system has entered her life, it's changed significantly - gaining elements and force as it travels across the topography of her emotional life. This weather system has reached its most lovely expression on Golan's sophomore album, Lead Balloon, the culmination of two years, organized around the pain and joy contained within that space.

Scars On 45
w. Anya Marina and Say Chance Saturday, February 11 12pm *Come early to catch Say Chance play at 11:45* $15 ALL AGES MATINEE
Why They're Worth Watching: Making music was the furthest thing from Danny Bemrose’s mind until the professional soccer player for England’s Huddersfield Town F.C. broke his foot at 21 and his world came crashing down. Putting down the soccer ball, Danny picked up his father’s guitar and co-founded Scars on 45. Making waves as they cross the pond, Scars on 45 roared onto the US music scene last year with their radio hit "Give Me Something" and toured with the likes of Matt Nathanson and Marc Broussard. Combining the gentle melodic intensity of Snow Patrol or Keane with the added allure of co-ed vocals, tension, often propelled by drummer Chris Durling’s insistent beat, builds throughout their songs as the emotional ante rises.
With the release of her 2005 debut, Anya Marina reinvented herself as a modern-day Renaissance woman: actress, comic, radio DJ, and quirky songwriter. Blurring the lines between pop, rock, electronica, and singer/songwriter, Anya's smoldering vocals and inventive songwriting are on full display in her latest "collection of misfit songs", Spirit School.

Why They're Worth Watching: With their roots in the same potent Sunset Strip folk revival that yielded the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield, the Association's music embodied a more formal, pop-conscious wedding of folkie influences and the same affinity for adventurous vocal harmonies that fueled many of Brian Wilson's legendary productions during that epoch.

Why They're Worth Watching: The world discovered America in 1972 when a nameless horse began its gallop across the international airwaves. If this sounds like some sort of fairy tale, it seemed like one for the young musicians who harmonized their way to the top of the charts on the strength of their signature song. "A Horse With No Name" made America a global household name, paving the way for an impressive string of hits following in its wake. Slightly more than a year after launching the group, Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell, and Dan Peek were bonafide superstars, thanks to a timeless sound that seamlessly assimilated strands of rock, pop and folk elements into a thrilling musical stew.

Why He's Worth Watching: Having spent fully half of his 28 years crafting some of the catchiest tunes to be heard at discriminating radio everywhere, Lee is now poised to reap the same kind of mass appeal that he's already established in his native Australia - where he's taken home four ARIA Awards (Australia's version of the Grammys ®). In a music culture dominated by bands, Ben Lee turned heads by being one of the youngest singer/songwriters to make an impression on Australian music. Even before the launch of his solo career, Lee came to attention in his early teens as a member of the Sydney band Noise Addict. Following the band's demise in the mid-'90s, he began issuing a string of acclaimed solo albums while taking part in several side projects, including the Bens.

Why She's Worth Watching: Her name is legendary. Her music is timeless. Her lyrics touch you at the core. Her voice possesses rich warmth that soothes your ears and holds you close. She is Lalah Hathaway.
Born to R&B/Soul music royalty, most people know her simply as the daughter of late Soul music legend, Donny Hathaway. But there is more to her than that. A trained pianist and vocalist, she is a graduate of the Berklee School of Music and her career has spanned two decades. 21 years after the release of her first LP, her career continues to thrive.

Why They're Worth Watching: Mention African song, and most Americans think of South African practicioners of the vocal arts and, perhaps more than any other artist in recent memory, the 10 member vocal ensemble, Ladysmith Black Mambazo. First brought to international attention on Paul Simon's Graceland, the group has won multiple Grammy awards, and serves as South Africa's cultural emissaries both at home and abroad. Time does not seem to be slowing LBM down at all as they continue to travel the world, meeting new friends, reaching new audiences, and spreading their message of, "Peace, Love and Harmony."
For Fans Of South African Music, The Soweto Gospel Choir, Paul Simon's Graceland, A'cappella Music
Why He's Worth Watching: With Otis Taylor, it's best to expect the unexpected. While his music, an amalgamation of roots styles in their rawest form, discusses heavyweight issues like murder, homelessness, tyranny and injustice, his personal style is lighthearted. "I'm good at dark, but I'm not a particularly unhappy person," he says.
